Welcome to Kennet

Devizes TownSituated in the heart of rural Wiltshire, the Kennet countryside covers around 375 square miles and has some of the most spectacular scenery in Southern England and is less than 2 hours from London.

Steeped in history, the district has some of the most important Neolithic monuments in the country and five of Wiltshire’s eight White Horses can be found in Kennet. The landscape is littered with sarsen stones and burial mounds, adding to the sense of mystery, myth and legend that makes the area so unique.

The bustling market towns of Devizes and Marlborough are focal points of the district. Devizes is famous for its castle, Norman churches and 500 listed buildings within a quarter of a square mile; Marlborough, an important staging post on the great road from London to Bristol, boasts one of the widest high streets in England. Both towns retain countless features of times gone by.  Venture further a field and discover the hidden villages where traditions are still very much alive.

The Kennet and Avon Canal is one of the country’s most beautiful waterways and offers a wealth of entertainment. Drink in the atmosphere from canal-side pubs, enjoy pleasure boat trips or boat hire, canoeing, fishing or simply walking or cycling the canal towpath, accessible throughout its entirety from Reading to Bristol.

The rural characteristics of Kennet guarantee that nature is never far away.  Over half of the district has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and nature reserves and trails are becoming ever more popular with conservation groups.

Ideally located in southwest England, Kennet has first class road and rail links with the rest of the country, and at its closest point is just  one and a half hours by car from London.
