Kennet's black recycling box

Kennet District Council operate a fortnightly multi material recycling collection service to residents using black boxes.

Please place your recycling box out by 0700 hrs on the day of collection at the kerbside where you normally put your rubbish.

Yes Please

  • Newspapers, magazines, junk mail, catalogues, white paper, brochures and leaflets

  • Phone books, including yellow pages

  • Glass bottles and jars

  • All food and drink cans and aerosols

  • Textiles, clothes, blankets, pairs of shoes (tied together), leather belts, handbags etc

  • Clean aluminium foil. ie. Yoghurt tops, baking foil, take away food containers

No Thank You

  • Cardboard, windowed envelopes, shredded paper

  • Duvets, pillows

  • Plastic bottles

  • Shiny metallic plastic, eg: crisp packets and sweet wrappers

  • Greaseproof or carbon paper

  • Shredded paper




  1. Put paper upright in the box alongside bottles, cans and foil

  2. Please wash out cans and foil thoroughly, dirty food cans or dirty silver foil will not be taken

  3. Please remove bottle and jar tops and lids. If the lid or top is metal please add it with your cans and tins for recycling.

  4. Put dry textiles in a separate knotted carrier bag in, or alongside, the box but please do not put them out on wet days

  5. If your box is too full, put paper in separate open carrier bags next to the box.  Hessian sacks are also available from the Council.

  6. Reuse carrier bags rather than black sacks which could be confused with rubbish

  7. Do not tie bags other than those containing textiles

  8. Any materials not shown in the “YES” list cannot be collected
