Sergeant Rogers and his medals

Kennet House, the new Environment and Amenity Services site for Kennet District Council is located at Hopton Park, Devizes. The access road leading to Kennet House crosses the original site once occupied by the Parade Ground in the 1940’s. Following extensive research with The Wardrobe in Salisbury (The Museum of the Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment’s) it was decided to name the access road after a Victoria Cross recipient from the 2nd World War.

Sergeant Maurice Rogers of the Second Battalion , The Wiltshire Regiment, courageously fought and died in the Second World War at Ardea during the second advance from Anzio to Rome. For his acts he was posthumously awarded the highest award for gallantry, the Victoria Cross.
