Policy is responsible for the provision of Corporate Policy guidance
and advice to the council. The Corporate Strategy is a comprehensive document outlining the Council’s
vision for the future of the District. The Policy Team assists in the production of this document by
providing research and administrative support, as well as ensuring timely monitoring and review takes
place.
The Council adopted a new corporate strategy
in 2004. Our 20-year vision for the future is that:
“The
Council will maintain sustainable communities, provide a clean, healthy and safe environment, and good
access to Council Services. We will encourage the participation of residents in decisions about their
communities.”
We will achieve this by pursuing the following four key priorities:
Community
Leadership: We will provide community leadership by informing, listening, assisting, influencing and
leading, and are committed to developing effective partnerships to achieve this.
Developing
Strong, Safe & Healthy Communities: We will develop our communities to give people the opportunity
to lead lives that are safe, healthy and fulfilling, acknowledging the diverse needs of the local population.
Stewardship
of the Environment: We will work with and enable our partners to care for and manage our built, natural,
historic and cultural environment ensuring an inheritance for future generations that protects and enhances
their quality of life.
Improving Council Services: We will improve our
services by matching resources to provide, or facilitate, the services that the stakeholders have identified
as being most important to them.
We will know when we have achieved our
vision when:-
We are recognised as an 'excellent' Council
Satisfaction with the authority exceeds the national top quartile of 70%
100% of all transactions capable of being processed electronically are enabled to be delivered in this way
We have enabled 2000 affordable homes
We are processing benefit applications in less than 36 days
Unemployment is maintained below the national average of 3.35%
We achieve level 3 of the equalities standard
We exceed the national recycling target of 25%.
